May Food Notes: Great Lakes Surf & Turf
It’s time to get your tickets for this year’s feast!
Edible Michiana and Flagship Specialty Foods & Fish Market are excited to announce our second annual collaboration as co-hosts of Great Lakes Surf & Turf! It's going to be even bigger and better than last year!
The event has gained a reputation as a culinary tour de force featuring some of the rare and wonderful foods thriving in our bountiful "inland seas" and surrounding woodland area.
The “surf” portion of the menu will feature grilled sturgeon. Sturgeon, a once abundant resource in the Great Lakes, is still with us but is protected from commercial fishing today. We use pristine farmed white sturgeon as a perfect culinary stand-in. The “turf” will be a succulent heritage Mangalitsa hog roast. The Mangalitsa breed was brought to the US from Europe, where it was bred with great care and high standards for many generations. Ours is pasture-raised at 1936 Meadowbrook Farm in Benton Harbor, MI, and will be roasted by the farmer himself! A fantastic range of delectable side dishes will be offered as well as local beer, wine, cider, and nonalcoholic beverages.
The School of American Music in Three Oaks, MI will provide many live performances throughout the evening. The School of American Music provides an incredibly valuable service of enriching lives through music and art. We are delighted to donate some of the event proceeds to them!
Our sponsors include Dablon Winery, Greenbush Brewing, Lake Michigan Vintners, Fruitbelt, and many more.
This is event is 21+ and will happen rain or shine.
