Without mushrooms, life would not exist as we know it.

In this workshop Lu Hook will guide you through the processes of mushroom cultivation by inoculating pasteurized straw with oyster mushrooms and packing it into buckets for you to take home to experience fruiting and eating mushrooms. We will also explore log culture with shiitake mushrooms and complete a group project that will remain on the farm. Students will walk away with a basic understanding of the mushroom life cycle and a better appreciation of the intricacies of the oldest known organism to live on dry land.  Lunch and optional yoga included in the day's events.

Lu Hook is a garlic farmer and a budding mycologist. He lives on a small family farm in northwest Indiana where he grows gourmet mushrooms and garlic and strives to be at one with all life around him in every aspect.  Verdant Hollow Farms is excited to have him host its first-ever workshop!

Worshop is limited to 25 students and requires pre-registration by April 16 by completing form at event website. Questions? Contact verdanthollowfarms@gmail.com
